The tree grows
Under plantation management, the teak tree spends sixty to eighty years absorbing Kerala's monsoon rainfall and drying-season heat. Forest workers monitor its growth, clearing competing undergrowth, recording its progress in hand-written logbooks. The tree is a long-term investment the community inherits from its grandparents.
Shaped by hand
Dried planks move to local artisan households. Craftsmen cut, joint, plane, and shape each piece. Grain is read; figure is oriented for beauty and function. End-grain boards are assembled like mosaics. Every piece is touched by at least three pairs of hands before it is considered ready to sand.
Oiled, checked, packed
We finish exclusively with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax, applied in multiple soaking passes u2014 no lacquer, no varnish, no sealed-off surface. A final inspection under natural light checks flatness, surface, and oil absorption. Pieces that pass are wrapped in unbleached kraft paper and packed in recycled cardboard. Then the journey begins.
Packed in Nilambur, each finished piece begins its journey from Cochin Port, where it is carefully prepared for export and loaded for its voyage across the ocean. After clearing North American customs, every order travels to its final destination, arriving in six to eight weeksu2014though the timber's own journey began decades earlier in the forests where it first took root
